If you're looking to gain more insight into yourself and let go of things that are holding you back, hypnosis can be a powerful way to do that. Hypnosis is a natural state. We go in and out of it throughout the day, such as before we go to bed, when we first wake up, when we drive a long distance and forget the time, when we're immersed in a great movie or book, and even when we daydream. It's a spectrum we move along.
A hypnosis session is geared towards helping you get into this state, so your "conscious mind' can relax, and your subconscious can be easier to work with. The conscious mind is like a filter. We're surrounded by so much information, it would be impossible to function if we were aware of everything. The conscious aspect of ourselves helps us navigate our world effectively and practically. The subconscious, on the other hand, is a virtual storehouse of information. Sometimes our intuition is a signal from the subconscious, which has a broader perspective than our conscious awareness.
The subconscious 'contains' our worldview, beliefs, habits, and automatic processes. This is why we can respond to something impulsively, and then immediately regret or wonder why we did that. The subconscious doesn't always make rational sense, at least from our typical viewpoint, but there is always a reason or association for its impulses. On a very basic level, we may respond to something that we subconsciously interpret as a threat - maybe public speaking - though we logically know that there is no physical threat. But, at some point, we learned that that was a threat.
Social rejection can certainly be threatening, and in hunter-gatherer days, this may have actually meant death for someone who relied on the group for survival. Even today, though, many people experience trauma or adverse childhood experiences that leave an imprint. What might appear to be limiting or destructive now may have been adaptive and helpful at a certain time, in a certain setting.
But we don't have to allow these imprints to remain. We can learn how to communicate with our subconscious, get back to the root of the issue, and change or reframe it. We can establish new, healthy imprints and mental programs to lead us to the success we want.
